Fantasy Football Podcast Survey Results
A big thank you to everyone who took a few moments to complete the Fantasy Football Podcast survey I posted last week. We had a great response to the questions, and in this post I’m going to give a high-level overview of the results.
Almost all of the respondents regularly listen to two or more fantasy podcasts every month, with 33% listening to 2-3 and 37% listening to four or more.
Close to two-thirds listen to some of their podcasts on-demand from the hosting site, meaning they will play the podcast directly from BlogTalkRadio, Podbean, etc. 43% of the survey listens to at least one of their shows live as it is being broadcast.
75% of you use an app or program to download and listen to your podcasts, and of those that made special mention of the program the OVERWHELMING majority used iTunes to find and listen to fantasy football podcasts. (Special note to podcasters – if your show isn’t uploaded to iTunes, remedy that situation ASAP! Here is a nice tutorial on how to get set up there.)
The best part of the survey was learning exactly WHY we listen to the fantasy football podcasts we do. Here are the most popular reasons, listed in order:
1. Expert opinions
T2. Entertainment value
T2. Different point(s) of view than my own
4. Identify sleeper players
5. Waiver wire advice
6. Matchup information
7. Interaction between host(s)
T8. Learn fantasy football strategy
T8. Player predictions
10. To learn which player(s) to start in a particular week
11. Trade evaluation
12. Tips on how to win my league
13. Ability to participate in the show
14. Weekly NFL wrap-up
15. NFL game predictions
16. Other (topics mentioned include – dynasty info; news and stats that can influence my opinion; information blended with humor/fun, a well-rounded show)
If you’d like more information on some of the best fantasy football podcasts on the ‘Net, please look no further than the FFMagicMan’s Fantasy Football Podcast Directory, which was updated earlier this month and features 70 podcasts about our favorite game.
And, if you are interested in the full results of the survey please let me know – I’ll be glad to get them to you to analyze or republish (with a backlink if you’d be so kind!). Just shoot me an email or send me a tweet – @FFMagicMan.
Enjoy these next few quiet days…before you know it free agency will begin, the draft will be upon us, OTAs will start and soon enough it will be fantasy draft season all over again!

Excellent. Thanks for doing this.
You bet Scott! Thanks for reading and keep up the great work at FFToolbox!
Great read, research, & fast delivery of the article! Well done.
Thanks, Dominic, for the kind words! (And for the Twitter-love! LOL) Best of luck in your high-stakes endeavours this upcoming season!
Good write up. I am surprised at the overwhelming iTunes result but I guess in general you either love the apple or hate it.
Thanks, James, and yeah I was a little surprised at how many folks mentioned iTunes too… I think it shows how powerful iTunes is for finding new listeners (and new shows)!
